The right dresses for every dress code

The right dresses for every dress code

Dresses flatter a woman’s body and exude femininity that no jeans and slacks could duplicate. However, dresses are not one-size fit all. If what you’re wearing is not appropriate for the event, your outfit is considered a fashion disaster despite how stylish and attractive you think it looks.

1. Informal

Casual or Informal Dress code is an invitation to wear what you feel most comfortable. You can wear shirt dresses paired with sneakers, summer maxi dresses and a sturdy pair of sandals or midi dress and wedges. Short of wearing pyjamas and old flip flops, you really go wrong.

2. Casual Chic

Casual Chic means you must dress-up more than your most casual look and asks you to present your personality through fashion. For example, a yellow wrap up dress paired with pumps and a bright-red sling bag is a good choice if you want to exude an open artistic persona.

3. Smart Casual

Smart Casual is a dress code that is above casual chic but less formal than business casual. A simple way to dress smart casual is to wear a monochrome dress but avoid wearing black as it could look too formal. Accessorize with a quality bag, heels, or pretty flats to complete your look.

4. Business Casual

Business casual is what you usually wear in the office, so the meaning of the term varies depending on workplace. To be on the safe side, aim for a polished look with toned down accessories.

5. Cocktail Attire

Cocktail Attire means above-the-knee and high heels combo. Dresses should be appropriate but fun.  Choose something not too revealing but with becoming colors, interesting cuts, and sophisticated details. Accessorize but don’t overdo it. If unsure, a little black dress is a definite go-to.

6. Semi-formal

Semi-formal is a little formal than cocktail attire and below black tie. Dresses that is conservative and no more than two inches above the knee are deemed acceptable. Don’t go overboard with make-up and accessories. Aim to look neat, professional, and respectable.

7. Black Tie

Black tie dress code for women allows for leniency. However, the ideal is floor-length dresses or gown. If on the short side or wearing gown feels burdensome, then formal cocktail attire is acceptable in certain occasions. It would help to ask the event organizers if in doubt. Remember to go for a sophisticated elegant look for black tie events.
